Berry & donaldson
One of South Africa’s largest private forwarding and clearing agents
Berry & Donaldson (B&D) was formed over 50 years ago in 1963, and has since grown into one of South Africa’s leading provider of international logistics solutions for commercial importers and exporters.
With headquarters in Cape Town, B&D has branches in Johannesburg and Durban, as well as an international office in Hong Kong, China.
Proudly South African, we continue to partner with large blue chip retailers as well as smaller importers and exporters in efficiently managing their supply chain.
Although we have the infrastructure to match most large multinational mega-freighters, we remain a family-owned business – our clients are our partners.
Rob Berry, Executive Chairman and majority shareholder of Berry and Donaldson, is the youngest son of founding member H.S. Berry, who started the company with Mr. I. Donaldson IN 1963. This Paarl Boys’ High School alumnus spent nine years at Nedbank and, having reached the level of Assistant Manager, joined the family business in 1978.
The Managing Director from 1986-2010, Rob’s aptitude for spotting economic trends has helped steer Berry & Donaldson from a small company to one of the largest privately-owned national shipping, forward and clearing agents. He is a keen follower of all sports, a regular golfer and a dedicated family man. Two of his four children are the third generation of Berrys working in the business.
Paul Waldburger CA (SA), Financial Director of Berry & Donaldson is originally from Durban and moved to Cape Town to study a Business Science degree at UCT. Following his graduation he completed his CA before a two year stint in Bermuda where he worked as a Financial Consultant in the Insurance Industry.
Upon his return to South Africa, Paul joined Berry & Donaldson as a Financial Manager 2009 and was appointed to the board as Financial Director in August of 2015.
Company Director & National Forwarding Manager
Kerrigan Berry, granddaughter of founder Henry Berry and daughter of Chairman Rob Berry, began working at the family company as an airfreight clerk in 1996, following the completion of her Diploma in Marketing Management.
After five years at the Cape Town Airport office, Kerrigan moved into sea freight, also as a clerk. Two years later she was made the Seafreight Imports Manager before becoming the National Forwarding Manager, a position she still holds in conjunction with that of company director.
Company Director And Exports & Project Logistics Manager
Jason Schouw, who heads the Berry & Donaldson Exports and Project Logistics division, was appointed to the board in October 2013.
Jason has a long association with the company. His father, Dicky Schouw, worked at B&D for many years and in the school holidays Jason did odd jobs in the operations. After school he embarked in a career in advertising and design but was soon lured back into the logistics industry, including a time at B&D when he opened the branch in Johannesburg.
In 2009, he was appointed by B&D to head up our Exports and Project Logistics division based at our Cape Town International Airport branch.
