Rob Berry, Executive Chairman and majority shareholder of Berry and Donaldson, is the youngest son of founding member H.S. Berry, who started the company with Mr. I. Donaldson IN 1963. This Paarl Boys' High School alumnus spent nine years at Nedbank and, having reached the level of Assistant Manager, joined the family business in 1978.
The Managing Director from 1986-2010, Rob's aptitude for spotting economic trends has helped steer Berry & Donaldson from a small company to one of the largest privately-owned national shipping, forward and clearing agents. He is a keen follower of all sports, a regular golfer and a dedicated family man. Two of his four children are the third generation of Berrys working in the business.
Paul Waldburger CA (SA), Financial Director of Berry & Donaldson is originally from Durban and moved to Cape Town to study a Business Science degree at UCT. Following his graduation he completed his CA before a two year stint in Bermuda where he worked as a Financial Consultant in the Insurance Industry.
Upon his return to South Africa, Paul joined Berry & Donaldson as a Financial Manager 2009 and was appointed to the board as Financial Director in August of 2015.
Kerrigan Berry, granddaughter of founder Henry Berry and daughter of Chairman Rob Berry, began working at the family company as an airfreight clerk in 1996, following the completion of her Diploma in Marketing Management.
After five years at the Cape Town Airport office, Kerrigan moved into sea freight, also as a clerk. Two years later she was made the Seafreight Imports Manager before becoming the National Forwarding Manager, a position she still holds in conjunction with that of company director.
Abeeda Parker has been part of the B&D family since the days of triplicate invoicing, typewriters and bad coffee. Starting as a receptionist straight from school in 1984, Abeeda was thrown in the deep end when the company, then just a clearing agent, consisted of a handful of people. She soon found herself dealing with all the documentation in both sea and airfreight clearing, from Bills to Insurance claim documentation.
Today, Abeeda is a vital cog on the working of the Customs clearing department. As the documentary gatekeeper of clearing, Abeeda controls the flow of documents that comes from forwarding to clearing, ensuring that files are received by the entry clerks five days before the arrival of the relevant vessel.
Abeeda was appointed to the board of B&D in 2010.
Edrees Diedricks, who manages our Cape Town Warehouse, has been in the freight industry for most of his life and has gained invaluable knowledge and experience on logistics.
His career began at the airport almost 25 years ago, at WTC RAND Air & Sea Freight. Thereafter he moved on to a major shipping company as an Export Shipping Clerk where he worked his way up through several positions in the company.
Edrees joined Berry & Donaldson in 2005 as a general warehouse manager. As such he oversees the warehousing, deliveries and logistical operations.
He was appointed to the B&D board in 2010.
Jason Schouw, who heads the Berry & Donaldson Exports and Project Logistics division, was appointed to the board in October 2013.
Jason has a long association with the company. His father, Dicky Schouw, worked at B&D for many years and in the school holidays Jason did odd jobs in the operations. After school he embarked in a career in advertising and design but was soon lured back into the logistics industry, including a time at B&D when he opened the branch in Johannesburg.
In 2009, he was appointed by B&D to head up our Exports and Project Logistics division based at our Cape Town International Airport branch.
